Microsoft 3D viewer Preview in Explorer not working anymore

I used to be able to view a preview of STL and OBJ files in the preview pane of Windows 11 explorer when those files were set to open with the 3D Viewer app. However, today I noticed that there no longer were any previews showing. I have tried restarting, reinstalling the 3D viewer app, scanning the disk for errors with sfc /scannow, but nothing helped.

Is there anything that can be done to fix this? The preview works as a static image when using 3D Builder as the default, but I really liked the 3D Viewer preview since it let you rotate the object within the preview pane.
