Microsoft 2.4GHz Transceiver v7.0 Microsoft Hardware USB Keyboard Access is Denied

Hi,

I'm trying to install a Microsoft Wireless Comfort Desktop Set (Microsoft Wireless Keyboard 5000 and Microsoft Wireless Mouse 5000).

When I install the USB dongle i.e. the Microsoft 2.4GHz Transceiver v7.0 I get a failure of the device to install - specifically a message about "Microsoft Hardware USB Keyboard" saying  "Access Denied"

Has anyone seen this before ?

PC is Windows 7 with all latest updates.

Hello,

Welcome to Microsoft Community Forums.

  1. Have you made any changes to the system?
  2. Are you able to install other USB devices?

I would suggest you to try the following methods and try:

Method 1

Follow the steps mentioned in the following link:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310123/en-us

Method 2

Temporary disable the security software and check.

Important Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 3

Refer to the following link and install all the software and drivers for Microsoft Wireless Comfort Desktop Set

http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/d/wireless-comfort-desktop-5000

Also try the device on a different USB port and check.

Additionally also check the following links:

1. http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-in/help/support/troubleshooting/keyboard/common-issues

2. http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-in/help/support/troubleshooting/keyboard/wireless-bluetooth

3. http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-in/support/troubleshooting

Hope this information was helpful.

Regards,

Deepak.

Thanks for your feedback.

Firstly, I've made no other changes to the system - other than trying to install this Microsoft keyboard set to replace an older Microsoft Keyboard set that suddenly stopped working.

Secondly, other USB devices can be added fine.

Thirdly - I went out and bought an almost identical Logitech keyboard set and plugged it in - added without issue and worked fine.

So this is MOST DEFINITELY A MICROSOFT BUG/PROBLEM.

Hello,

Thanks for keeping us posted on the current status of the issue.

Are you logged in as an administrator?

I would suggest you to try the following methods and check:

Method 1

Perform a Clean Boot to see if there is any software conflict as clean boot helps to eliminate software conflicts.

Follow the link below to perform clean boot:

“How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8”

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135
Note: Please go through the section: How to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting with clean boot of the Kb article to boot the computer in normal startup after fixing the issue.

Method 2

Follow the steps below:

1.       Browse to the file location i.e the driver of the USB dongle.

2.       Right click on the file and choose ‘run as an administrator’

If it still doesn’t work, follow the steps in method 3

Method 3

Create a new administrator user account and check in that.

Refer to the link below:

Create a user account

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows/create-user-account#create-user-account=windows-7

Hope this helps. Please reply back with the results to let us help you further.

Regards,

Deepak.

I had to turn off my antivirus, install the drivers, and then turn the antivirus back on.

Had this issue today, it's most likely caused by a program's drivers, just boot into safe mode with networking by tapping F8 repeatedly when you turn on the machine, it'll then give you the option to boot to safe mode, then update with search online from the device manager, should work.
