Microphone does not work on my new HP Spectre

I have a Spectre that I purchased in August 2019 for school and work. I cannot get my microphone to work for zoom meetings or google meets. I have changed settings and followed the privacy instructions and nothing has worked. My coworkers can see me but not hear me.  My webcam and microphone are built-in. I really need access to the microphone for my work meetings due to the stay at home orders. Please advise.

My name is Lee and I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

I have few suggestions that you may try:

1. Give App permission:
• Settings > Privacy > Microphone > Make sure the toggle button for the specific App that you are using is ON

2. Set the correct Input device
• Settings > System > Sound > Input > Choose your input devices - the correct Microphone must be selected

3. Run the Troubleshooter:
• Settings > System > Sound > Input > Click the Troubleshoot button under Input and make sure the Test your Microphone bar can detect sound

4. Download and Install all the latest Windows Update
• Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for Updates

If my suggestion did not solve the issue, please reply back and verify the make and model of your PC or if it's a custom built, please provide the model of the Motherboard so we can try other step.

I have the exact same problem and I having been pulling my hair out!!!! I tried all of the above and nothing worked. Any other suggestions?

I have the same problem and nothing works.  Spent 3 hours on the phone with Microsoft.

Hey there Stephen, and thank you for the reply, and I feel you...frustrating...I spent hours today going thru all the help suggestions. At least I know my way around my computer better...everything says the mic is fully operational with proper drivers, updates, you name it!

But no joy. Was considering phone support, but now not so sure...if I figure it out I'll sure let everyone know!

I finally took my HP Spectre to a local PC Repair shop. They were able to get it to finally work (at least for now). They of course tried all the things we have been doing and did look at forums and indicated that it was a KNOWN issue with this model!!!!  They finally did a OS system re-load to get it to work. It was a pain for me to reload Office 365 and other things but it was worth it for it to finally work. I just hope future windows 10 updates don't screw it up. Of course I notice this after the 1 year warranty. I just wish HP would own up to this.

Future updates WILL screw up all that work, because mine just did. I went through all that hoop and got it work for a couple months but the last update just screwed up the whole thing and im back to square 1 with no microphone!

I was afraid that would happen. I must not have received the update yet. That's just so infuriating as HP knows there is a problem with the Spectre and has taken no responsibility!

I had the same issue fora couple of weeks now and been driving me crazy.

I read on another forum this solution and it worked for me.

In the search bar type audio control and open 'HP Audio control'  go to the input tab and change the reduce background sounds from multiple voices to only my voice and try again.

As soon as I changed that it started working again as normal.
