McAfee reports Microsoft Edge is unsecure

McAfee just now sent a security warning that stated Microsoft Edge is unsecure because of some issure about "extentions".

Their urgent notice urged using Internet Explorer not Edge. Of course this is very distresing. Since Edge is used so often, integrated into so much of Windows 10 and has many good features it is very hard to understand why it is now unsecure in McAfee's warning.

What does this really mean and wouldn't Microsoft have confered with McAfee, or vise versa, if Edge was a threat to users? Signed, confused and scared to use Edge. Thanks everyone!

Edge probably is by McAfee standards since Edge is not yet finished.

I just received the same message from McAfee, it stated that McAfee could not protect our personal identity through Microsoft Edge  because Edge does not allow browser extensions. It advised us to use Internet Explorer and to take Microsoft Edge off of our taskbar.

"Since Edge is used so often, integrated into so much of Windows 10 and has many good features it is very hard to understand why it is now unsecure in McAfee's warning"

Thanks to 'insider' reply. Here's the issue, either a non-IT professional should be using Edge or they shouldn't. It is either a prank that McAfee didn't issue or Microsoft will correct whatever McAfee is warning about "extensions" making Edge unsecure.

Non-IT professionals don't have the time to waste on vulnerability they can't do anything about and the program, McAfee, that is supposed to protect them is warning that 'Edge is a major danger so use Internet Explorer.'

Boy, the new W10 is great, but either it's safe or isn't. Why should a user have to even worry that it is so vulnerable that McAfee doesn't like it?  How frustrating is that? Thanks again everybody!

I always find it amazing that McAfee and others don't flag Java and Flash as malware, because they are a prime target for hackers and other malware installers!  All Internet browsing carries an element of risk, but if you are concerned about the warning then follow the advice to use IE, which is still in Windows 10, or another browser for secure transactions until Edge is further developed to accept security extensions. Keep Edge for general browsing, which it is best suited to at this stage of development in my opinion.

Had the same message from McAfee today, although have had W10 for nearly three months: could it have been triggered by yesterday's batch of updates?  Either Edge is reliable or it isn't - would be a real pain hopping between it and IE11.

Someone in a BT forum suggested a solution is to click on the IE tools icon (white gear wheel), and then in the McAfee tab tick the box "Tell me if a search result is safe in any search engine" - will that do the trick?

Thanks again everyone! Also thanks Microsoft, if this is actually a problem, this extensions issue, it really does little good to suggest everything is a "work in progress". Sure, everything is a work in progress. But really guys?

Does local novice user, here, really have to worry the point about internet security that both McAfee and Microsoft rely on for both their businesses?

That seems a lot to ask local user and potentially dangerous to personal data or other threat? It just seems to wasteful and creates needless anziety that these guys together are supposed to help eliminate.

Anyway, thanks again everyone. Hate to make a mouse from a mole hill, but golly, the warning seems pretty specific and at leaste others have assured this isn't a mirage.

The Edge extensions are not a vague "on going project."  The extensions should be in production for the Threshold 2 delivery to the public in November (no exact date announced yet).  Threshold 2 is the codename for the next iteration of Windows 10.  Windows insiders are getting bits and pieces of Threshold 2 already.

Thanks for this info.   Until Microsoft can reissue Edge with a confirmation that it can be monitored properly by McAfee I'll be sticking with IE11 for on-line work.  Just glad I've not activated Cortana!  Leaves a bad taste in the mouth...

It's McAfee that should be leaving a bad taste. The big anti-virus suites tend to cause more problems than ever they fix.. :-)
