Malwarebytes anti-malware

I called Microsoft and I paid for the assurance program so the Microsoft support team could connect to my computer and remove what ever virus was not allowing it to work.  They connected to my computer and downloaded  a malwarebyte anti-malware software which I have now installed on my computer.  It is called Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (premium) 2.0.2.1012.  I have this version because when they ran this  software it found viruses that needed to be removed but it would only remove them if I activated the program.  So after activating this software it also wanted me to buy more software which I did called malwarebyte anti-exploit  Some how I came across a page that stated that the support that Microsoft was giving was coming from other countries and they where not to be trusted.  I am very confuse on who to trust.  I do not know weather I am speaking to a legitimate Microsoft agent or some scamer.  It frightens me very much and I am questioning myself for not having bought a mac laptap.   how can I find out if the programs are legit?

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware is a well respected program that has been around for ages.

You can check it out here.

What contact details do you have for  "assurance program........ Microsoft support team" ?   Was it something like "Microsoft Software Assurance", if so that is something run by Microsoft but usually involves Microsoft Office or Volume Licensing products so I'm not too sure about that.

Normally self initiated contact with Microsoft is a safe option but not so safe if someone claiming to be from Microsoft contacts you out of the blue.  They would never do that.

MalwareBytes is a fine free (or paid if you want active protection) anti-malware software (not anti-virus.)

It would have removed whatever it found without activation in every version I have used.

If you want legitimate versions of the applications and to scan your computer for other issues - here is what I suggest:

Restart the computer.

Download, install, run, update and perform full system scans with the following two applications:

Removing everything they find. Rebooting when needed. (You can uninstall one or both when done.)

Then perform an online scan with the eSet Online Scanner. Remove whatever is found.

Come back - let us know how it goes.

How does this pertain to Windows Update functionality?

What number did you call to reach "Microsoft support" and how much did you pay for the "assurance program?"

Note: Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (MBAM) Free and MBAM Premium 14-day free-trial are NOT the same.
