The New Connection Wizard was unable to open the following location on your machine:

C:/Program Files/Online Services

** I have no clue what to do, i was on the phone with Microsoft support, and they said it was because of my Kaspersky Internet Security 2011, so i contacted Kaspersky, and did all the checks with them and it was ok, and then i was advised that i needed to go back to microsoft, so here i am going in a loop, and cannot get a network connected, i have tried to so many things with microsoft on the phone, i dont know what to do and i am really hoping someone can help me fix, this. because i can only go on very limited site, before i get the error the webpage cannot be displayed, and then i run the diagnostic check, and it says that there is nothing wrong with my connection, and to refresh the page, and check spelling on try the link. so i tried the link and it still goes right back to webpage cannot be displayed. i am now into day 3 of this issue, and not getting it resolved. i really hope someone can help me PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, and THANK YOU. i can tell you one example of a site it is doing it to, Yahoo. i can bring up the yahoo home page no problem connecting there, and the on the left hand side i click on the mail link, and it takes me right to the webpage cannot be displayed. Why are you trying to use your "1394 Connection"?  That is your FireWire adapter and almost never used to connect to the Internet.

  1. What -- physically -- comes into your house/apartment/living space that is your connection to the Internet?   For example, a telephone wire, a cable television cable, a wireless signal.
  2. What -- physically -- is connected to the wire/cable/wireless signal described in item 1?  Please give the make and model of the device.
  3. How -- physically -- is your computer connected to the device of item 2?
Were you ever able to connect to the Internet?  If so, what changed/happened just before you became unable to do so?

Hi

The differences between the top security suits are minute.

Each one might miss something when tested, but in general, they provide similar protection.

As long as a person uses a single computer connected to the Internet it does not matter much which one is used.

The problem of using 3rd party security suits stems from their difficulties (lack of flexibility) to handle variety of Networking situations.
Kaspersky's people can view their product per-se as OK on your computer, but that does not mean that it is Not blocking something else on the Network aspects of your computer.

If you spend time on Computer's Networking Forums you will amazed of the number of users that in order to have a functional LAN and Internet connection have to Uninstall the 3rd party suits and clean their computers from the security suits running processes.

As for 1394, it is Not a Network card, it is the Firewire controller. While it has network capacity, it is Not a good idea to use for complex Internet/Network activities.

If you do not have a real network card, get one (there are many good cards for about $10). Then configure your Network manually.

In General, http://www.ezlan.net/debug.html

Hi Lemp, this is what the network is defaulting to i have never tried to use it, and i have never heard of it, and as i stated in my post, i tried to get a new network connection, and it gave me the error above, so i did not pick this 1934, i am trying to get an active network but it gives me the error above, as to your questions Lemp, 1) comes from my telephone line it is not dial up. 2) it plus in a black box just like a phone cord, and then i plug the other end into a phone line or unit that is made for the Internet the item is a Siemens (speedstream) 4200 modem. 3) and the other part the ethernet cable plus into the back of the tower. Yes i was able to connect to the internet a few days ago with no problems at all, and then i had to renew my internet security, because my year was up so i purchased the kaspersky 2011 internet security, and then after i unistalled the old one that was expiring which was also with kaspersky, i installed the new one, and tried to connect to the internet, and this automatically happend to me. i dont mess with anything to do with the networks, when this got downloaded the system picked this 1934. hope this helps out, thanks

Hi jack, i am not trying to use this 1934 i never heard of it before, i am trying to get a network established, by using the new connection wizard, and it gives me the error, as in my 1st post. i did not pick on this 1934 the system did. so i dont know what else to do. i have uninstalled and reinstalled kaspersky, and the same issue happens, i have had malware reviewed and fixed, i mean you name it i have tried it, well not everything of course, but it feels like it, i am just trying to get a network connected and when i try i get this error below

The New Connection Wizard was unable to open the following location on your machine:

C:/Program Files/Online Services

Renae,

For future reference, you have a DSL connection.  The Ethernet cable from the Speedstream 4200 DSL Modem plugs into an Ethernet network adapter in your tower (not into your Firewire/1394 adapter).  So far, so good.

The first thing you need to do is to determine if the Ethernet network adapter in your computer is working properly.

Open Device Manager (right-click My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager).

Go down the list (it should be in alphabetic order) to "Network Adapters" and click the + to the left of that entry.

There should be at least two entries under Network Adapters. One is the 1394 adapter and the other should be your ethernet adapter.  Confirm that there is no yellow ! next to this entry.  Double click on the entry (or right click and choose Properties).  Under "Device status" it should say, "This device is working properly."  At the bottom, it should say, "Use this device (enable)".

Assuming all is well, close Device Manager.  If the box at the bottom said, "Do not use this device (disable)", change it to enable and OK your way out.

Now, open a Command Prompt window (Start > Run > cmd > OK).

In the black Command Prompt window that opens, type the following line and press Enter.

     ipconfig /all > "%UserProfile%\Desktop\ip.txt"

Go to your desktop, open the file ip.txt using Notepad, copy and paste the contents into your answer.

Close notepad and the Command Prompt window.

Given the sequence of events that you describe, the problem almost certainly was caused by uninstalling your old Kaspersky suite or installing the new one ... but let's see what you find out by doing the above procedures.

Hi

I was trying to say that if switching to Ethernet will not work that you will have to try getting rid of Kaspersky security software.

Otherwise the link in my above post provide a way to check the system.

http://www.ezlan.net/debug.html

Following Lemp clear advice shows that you have a valid Ethernet connection.

As Jack says, your Ethernet connection to your Speedstream router is OK.

Perhaps you are selecting the wrong options in the New Connection Wizard.

On the first screen after the opening screen, select "Connect to the Internet"

On the next screen, select "Set up my connection manually"

On the next screen, select "Connect using a broadband connection that is always on"

Finish.
