Licensing Audit: No COA sticker for preloaded Win8 and 10 machines

Hello everyone,

A company in Malaysia is being requested to perform a license audit by Microsoft and I am assisting them to get this done. Numbers of new machine are Windows 8 or 10 preloaded from Dell, HP or Acer. To my understanding, which I believe has been ask multiple times, that a COA is not presented with these machine. And in fact Dell has posted info in their website about this as well.

For reference: http://www.dell.com/support/article/my/en/mydhs1/SLN289418

The problem now is the Licensing consultant insists I must have the COA to make the license legal. (I provided them invoices to proof the ownership). This turns into argument on phone and she informs me that she asked the "higher up" and confirm I must have the COA and request me to call the manufacturer for it.

Any advice? Thanks~

Regards,

A.T.

Hi Jayant,

Thanks for your effort to reply my question.

This does gives me further proof on I didn't mistaken the fact that the COA doesn't exist for these Windows Preloaded machine.

However, doesn't solve the problem the licensing consultant insists I should provide a COA for them. According to what she said on phone, the COA must be somewhere, either I misplaced it (which shouldn't be due to in Windows 7 or earlier era the sticker should be on the machine itself while delivery, and more importantly, I check thru everything while I receives them) or the seller (which is Dell / HP / Acer) make a mistake and I should get it from them (wish me good luck with this....)

I am thinking of certain official proof from Microsoft, for example info on a website about this. I am not sure why I run into problem with a licensing consultant suppose to be professional in this area but I need some advice from everyone on how can I get into a common ground with her. I can't see how can I provide something doesn't exist at the first place. If I have to agree with her, then my personal Microsoft Surface, purchased at Microsoft recently and loaded with Windows 10, is not genuine.

Thanks.

Regards,

A.T

Hi,

With Windows 8/8.1 The Product Key on preinstalled Operating Systems (HP, Acer, etc) is embedded in the BIOS in the Motherboard, so that the lost and/or worn C.O.A. Sticker problem is no more.

When you reinstall it will pick up the Product Key and activate the system automatically.

If it does not, follow these steps:

Hello Bill,

I understand what you are saying but it doesn't solve my problem.

I also understand the sticker is no more and I don't have problem with activation.

The problem is on Microsoft's licensing consultant (I believe they are external contractor by looking at their email address b-???@microsoft.com) insists on I giving them a photo taken on the COA stickers for any of those desktop machine with Win8 and 10 preloaded by Dell/HP/Acer, even I provided the purchase invoice.

I need certain official proof that I can show this lady and their team they have mistaken on this issue and it is impossible to cope with their request as it is something not existed for these desktop.

Any advice? Thanks~

A.T

Can't help you.

Microsoft does not supply those Licenses to you; the OEM Manufacturer does.

Microsoft sell the Licenses to the OEM Manufacturer in bulk.

Hi ArwinT,

May i know how is the case turn out ?
I'm currently looking to purchase a desktop PC from one of the PC shop which they claim to provide me an "embedded" Windows 10 Pro.
But no COA stickers will be provided. It is necessary to have the COA sticker even the windows is legit?
