Latest windows 10 update will not install.

As instructed by Microsoft, latest update to Windows 10 Version 1607 has failed repeatedly. When installing the update my computer freezes @ 75%. After rebooting 3 hours later, the update installed to 82% when it froze again. Rebooting again after waiting another 3 hours the update stopped and restored the previous version. How can I install this latest update?

Louis

Hi Louis,

This issue can occur due to a corrupted Master Boot Record. A Master Boot Record is a sector on a hard drive necessary to start the operating system startup process. For us to better understand the issue, we'd like to ask a few questions:

  • What is the make and model of your device?
  • Did you encounter any error message while running the update?
  • What have you tried so far to troubleshoot the issue?

As an initial troubleshooting step, we recommend that you download and run the Windows Update troubleshooter to identify and fix any underlying factors that may be causing the problem.

For any results, kindly update this thread.

Make and model: Acer Aspire Z3170

Windows10 Home

Version 1607

OS build: 14393.2035

Error message: 0x80070020 (did get this error message the 3rd time I tried to install update, not since)

Have tried to install update 1709 twice more, no luck. Freezes @75% and after reboot 2 hrs later, freezes again @ 82%. After next reboot, restores previous version.

Tried Sayan_Ghosh's thread, but nothing has worked so far

Error message 0x80070020 no longer there.

Windows Update trouble shooter has following message: "Potential Windows Update Database error detected - not fixed".

Update freezes @75%, then at 82% after reboot. After rebooting again restores previous version.

Reset Windows Updates components    Again update freezes and the restores.

Reset update script Windows 10 no longer available for download.

Even after removing update file continue to get notification to update to 1709; PC continues to freeze as per above.

Many others appear to have the same problem. What's up with Microsoft?

Hi Louis,

The issue that you’ve encountered when installing the update on your Windows 10 computer may be caused by some configuration or components that prevent Windows from working properly. To sort out your concern, we suggest that you perform a repair upgrade on your computer by using the Windows 10 ISO file. This process will reinstall Windows over its existing installation to fix any possible broken operating system files. It will also keep your personal files, settings, and installed applications. To do this, you may follow the steps provided on this link, created by Andre Da Costa. Once you’re on the page, you may proceed with the steps and complete the process. After completing the given steps, you may check if you’re able to use your device properly.

Keep us updated about your concern for additional assistance.
