Hi Ruth

My name is Andre Da Costa; an Independent Consultant, Windows Insider MVP and Windows & Devices for IT MVP. I'm here to help you with your problem.

Press Windows key + R
Type: appwiz.cpl
Hit Enter
Click View installed updates
Select the recent update
Right click it then click uninstall.

Restart into Normal mode then check if stability/functionality is restored. If it is, proceed with the next steps.

The update will try to install again, so use the following to block it:
Is there an option or work around to block updates or hardware drivers that might cause problems?
Yes, Microsoft has released a KB update (KB3073930) that will let users block or hide Windows or driver updates.

You can download it at the following link:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930

After downloading, launch it, click Next, wait while it detects pending Windows Updates.

Click the Hide Updates menu.

Scroll through the list then select then select the update. Check the box next to the update then click Next to confirm changes.

If that does not work:

Press Windows key + R
Type: rstrui.exe
Hit Enter

This will start the system restore wizard. Choose a restore point before the problem started.

Hi Ruth. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 year Windows MVP, and Guardian Moderator here to help you.

I understand your keyboard and mouse won't work. Let's see if they work well enough in Repair or Boot mode to get into Safe Mode to reinstall the Keyboard, Mouse or USB drivers, Reset the PC or Clean reinstall

Try powering off the PC by pressing the power button for 30 seconds; do this 3 times. On the third time power on it should throw it into Repair Mode, then try to get into Safe Mode with Networking: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2294-advanc...

From Safe mode right click Start to open Device Manager, try reinstalling Keyboard, USB and all USB drivers. Before doing this program the power button to Shut down the PC at Settings > System > Power & Sleep > Additional Power Settings > Choose what Power buttons do.

If this fails go back to Troubleshoot Options to try a Reset. If that fails follow the illustrated steps in this link which compile the best possible Clean Install of Windows which will stay that way as long as you stick with the tools and methods given, has zero reported problems, and is better than any amount of money could buy: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

You may need to create bootable media to access Repair Mode or do the Clean install:

To create Windows 10 Installation Media on another PC install Media Creation Tool and follow the directions here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m.... Uncheck the box for Recommended Settings to choose the exact version and bit rate for the target PC only.

Insert media, boot it by powering up PC while pressing the BIOS Boot Menu Key: https://www.sysnative.com/forums/hardware-tutor...

If the media won't boot you may need to enter BIOS/UEFI Setup (pressing key given in chart in link above) to turn off Fast Boot or Fast Startup first.

Choose the boot device as a UEFI device if offered, on second screen choose Repair Your Computer, then Advanced Troubleshoot Options, then System Restore. If that fails go back to Troubleshoot Options to try a Reset.

If that fails choose Install Now, then Custom Install, then at the drive selection screen delete all partitions down to Unallocated Space to get it cleanest, click Next to let it create needed partitions and start install - this makes it foolproof.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

Try this with the wired keyboard and mouse.

Try resetting your BIOS defaults:

https://www.groovypost.com/howto/reset-pc-bios-...

If that does not work and you have a desktop computer...

Power down
Unplug it
Open the system unit

Remove the CMOS CR-2032 battery
Plug it in, start the machine, wait 10 seconds

Power down, unplug it, reinstall the CMOS CR-2032 battery
Plug it in again, power up

Option 1

Go to another working computer, download then install Macrium Reflect Free and create bootable Rescue Flash Drive.

Boot from it and click on 'fix windows boot problems'

Make sure bios is set to uefi or legacy bios depending on how it was installed.

See instructions how to download it:

https://www.groovypost.com/howto/create-windows...

See the section: Create Rescue Media

Option 2

First of all, if you have any non-essential hardware attached to your computer apart from mouse and keyboard, disconnect them.

See if the system boots successfully, if it does not, carry out the following steps

Power on and off your computer three times

How do you do that?

Power on, when you see the Windows Logo - power off

Power on, when you see the Windows Logo - power off

Power on, it will then your computer will boot into the Advanced Recovery environment

You might be asked to sign in with your Microsoft Account or Local Account password.

**********************************************

Click Advanced Options
Click Troubleshoot
Click Advanced Options

Click System Restore, see if you can go back to an earlier time.

If not, boot into the recovery environment again, then try performing a startup repair.

Perform the startup repair a couple more times then restart again to see if you are able to boot to the desktop successfully.

If that does not work, boot into the recovery environment, then click 'Go back to previous version of Windows' - choose this option if you recently upgraded to a new Windows 10 Feature Update. If this option is not available, you can skip this step.

Option 3

If that does not work.

Power on and off your computer three times
On the third time, your computer will boot into the Advanced Recovery environment
Click Advanced Options
Click Troubleshoot
Click Reset this PC
Click Keep my files
Choose your account
Enter your password
Click Continue
Click Reset

Option 4

If that does not work.

Go to a working computer, download, create a bootable copy, then perform a clean install.

Step 2: How to: Perform a clean install of Windows 10

If there are files on the drive you want to recover, see - How to: Perform a Custom install of Windows 10
