Laptop won't detect external monitor

Hello everyone,

I can't seem to have my Asus laptop identifying my new bought Asus monitor. I am not good with computers and I go on forums all the time to look for solutions. This time simply did not work. Here are the suggestions I found and that I followed entirely like a child would strictly follow his mother's steps :

[obviously connecting via hdmi cable the monitor to the computer]

- then fn + F8 to activate it => done [duplicated, extended, name it]

- the monitor works fine on its own. I selected on the screen the HDMI option so it should be fine.

- installed the Chipset Intel Kabylake blabla on the asus drivers website [checked the right reference etc] = done. nothing changed

*somebody suggested reinstalling, updating also the graphics card - wanted to but apparently I've already got the latest version.

- Device Manager > Diplay Adapters > Intel(R) HD Graphics 620 [right click] > Properties > ''Select Output'' was supposed to appear in one of the tabs but didn't find any.

- right click desktop > display settings > detect > Message : ''Didn't detect another display''

- right click desktop > intel graphics settings > Display > General Settings > Built-in Display [only option available]. Also tried:

- right click desktop > intel graphics settings > Display > Multiple Displays > Detect - again, none detected.

*At no point when I go to Display on Control Pannel or right click desktop + Personnalize / Display settings, I see a number suggesting that the computers communicates with an external monitor.

Here is what I have :

Laptop : ASUS B9440UA-GV0177R

Windows : 10 Pro

Ram : 16 GO

Cable conection / input : HDMI

Monitor : Asus VZ229

*Precisions : Since I made the terrible mistake of buying an ultra thin portable with basically no ports, i connect everything through the Asus Mini Dock. I'm planning to buy a self powered usb dock but I doubt that is the problem. I simply wanted to mention this because yesterday, the current mini dock didn't provide enough power for my recording little interface for music / mic etc. The computer, the dock, the cable and the screen are all newly bought so none of them are supposed to be damaged because of long use.

Sorry for the long message but I am desperate... I thank everyone in advance for taking the time to help me :)

Thank you and have a wonderful sunny day!

Hi,

For us to get a better understanding of the issue and provide a resolution suitable to your concern, kindly provide the following information:

  • Before you click the the detect button on Display settings, do you have multiple display option on extended?
  • Can you lower down the resolution option and check if your external monitor will be detected by the laptop?

Tip: To change the projection settings, you can press and hold Windows key button + P.

Looking forward to your reply.

Hi,

Thank you for the reply. I have already specified I tried putting ON duplicate / extend when trying to detect second device. Now following your advice, I also tried this time lowering down the resolution [by little and by a lot - none changes anything]. It just keeps telling me ''didn't detect another display''.

The First There's another thing:  Everytime I do the fn + F8 or - as you were saying - Windows + P - and I click on it to activate it, I click on a different window [it closes as it should] - theeen - if I redo the function, I find it switched back to 'Single Screen'. Is it normal ?

The Second There's another thing:  When I plug in the Asus Mini Dock, it says ''DisplayPort connection might not work. Try using a different cable''. That being said, the Minidock is new. I went with it to the store when I bought the monitor. It simply says the same thing NO MATTER WHAT. Ex: I introduce a USB, it opens / reads it etc. Note: Its driver is updated.

Which one would be the problem? If none of these 2, then WHAT would the problem?

Question solved. I went to the store where I bought the computer. They made some updates and now it works!
