Laptop wi-fi adapter intermittent disconnect/reconnect: event viewer logs

Hello all, I am looking for some help with a particularly annoying issue I am facing. Intermittently and seemingly at random, my wi-fi turns off, disconnects, turns back on, and reconnects. I notice this happen when watching livestreamed content, for example, and when it disconnects, the Internet Access button in the toolbar shows a globe icon and no networks available rather than the normal wi-fi symbol.

I have uninstalled and reset the network adapter drivers and this did not fix the issue. I've also just conducted a full scan through Windows Defender with no issues identified. I have also set the network adapter to NOT turn off to save power in power management settings (though please note, unfortunately my laptop is always plugged in due to battery issues). Scrolling through the Event Viewer, I've noticed a pattern of Administrative Events (Warnings and Errors) that occur every time the network adapter drops. I've copy pasted these below:

1. Warning; Source: Netwtw04; Message: "6105 - deauth after EAPOL key exchange sequence." Event ID: 6105

2. Warning; Source: DNS Client Events; Message: "Name resolution for the name wpad timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded." Event ID: 1014.

Please note that the warning in step #2 always logs twice separated by about 3 seconds.

3. Error; Source: Netwtw04; Message: "Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 3165 : The network adapter has returned an invalid value to the driver." Event ID: 5010.

Please note that the warning in step #3 always logs four times separated by 1-2 seconds each.

4. WarningSource: DNS Client Events; Message: "Name resolution for the name answersstaticfilecdnv2.azureedge.net timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.." Event ID: 1014.

Please note that the link in step #4 is variable in these logs, I assume it depends on what sites are actively being pinged.

I also have a lot of this following warning, though these seem to be more or less at random:

WarningSource: isaAgent; Message: "1.0.0.532: Connection error: The remote name could not be resolved: 'api.intelsa.intel.com'

Network available: True." Event ID: 1130.

This has been very frustrating to deal with over the past 24 hours. Please advise on the steps that I can take to resolve this issue and thank you very much in advance. I am happy to post additional logs and information on request. Also, I realize I may need to contact Intel about this-- if that is the case, I can do so, but I wanted to start here. Thanks!

Hello Carlo,

Thank you for these steps. I followed them exactly and unfortunately the issue is persisting, with the same event viewer errors and warnings. I did receive one issue when running 'netsh int ip reset', see screenshot below.

The computer is a Lenovo ideapad 700. In system information, the system model is "80RU" and the system SKU is: "LENOVO_MT_80RU_BU_idea_FM_Lenovo ideapad 700-15ISK". Hope this helps, please let me know if you need any more info.

Hi BawRroccoli ,

I would like to help you but I need more information:

1) During normal web browsing these problems do not exist? Does this only happen when watching live streaming content?

2) Do you have a Dual-Band router? Is the SSID set the same for both bands, 2.4 and 5 GHz, or do you have separate SSIDs?

3) Is the problem present on both bands?

Waiting for your answers, go to Device Manager> network adapters, select your network adapter in use, click on the Advanced tab and disable any options regarding energy saving. If there is a MIMO Power Save Mode option, try setting it to No SMPS.

Try again.

Hello Franco,

I'm happy to provide more info, but as a quick update, the connection has not dropped over the past 24 hours. I rolled back the driver to version 19.0.1.1 (6/15/2016; Intel) and this seems to have provided more stability. This is a bit frustrating because it means that I also have to disable automatic driver updates, or Windows will update the driver on restart to newest release, which seems to be causing these issues. That said, here is the information you requested:

1) The problem was also presenting during normal web-browsing. It would occasionally drop, which I would notice in the event logs, or when I tried to open a new web-page.

2) Unfortunately I do not have immediate access to the router, I could get back to you on this, but there is only a single SSID, so I suspect that if it is dual band, both 2.4 and 5 GHz are set to the same SSID.

I double checked the advanced settings, I have everything related to energy saving disabled. There isn't a MIMO power save mode. Thank for your help so far and I'll try to find out about the router soon.

I'd prefer not to update the latest driver, because I was having issues under that driver, and for now, the previous driver seems to be performing well.

Hi BawRroccoli ,

no, I didn't ask you to update to the latest driver. I asked you to let me know if the connection works fine with this driver you have installed.

Thanks for the screenshot.
