laptop shutting down when closing the lid and saying password is incorrect

Whenever the lid on this laptop closes, it shuts down. The settings on the control panel says that closing the lid should sleep it, however it shuts down instead. After powering it on after opening the lid, it shows the "you have entered an incorrect password too many times" and requires typing the A1B2C3 code before inputting password. Why does it do this? It was working fine up until this point.

The first problem - shutting down when closing lid - has occurred before, but it had fixed itself that time, and the password error did not happen.

EDIT: fixed the incorrect password issue by entering a wrong passcode one more time to get it to have to have the laptop restarted which fixed it

Dear golfph

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community.

Regarding your issue, it may be due to the laptop when the lid is closed.

The screen did not go off and pressed into the number and letter keys and Enter key on the keyboard.

This caused the problem of entering the wrong password multiple times.

This problem usually happens rarely.

You can try clicking Sleep/Hibernate manually.

Do not close the lid and then wake up Windows to verify the cause of this password error.
