Laptop locks while I type

I have a new Acer laptop and only in the last week or so it just locks (used to be hibernate until I repaired Office 365). It only happens during typing (in any application) - mouse surfing and game playing is OK. This post took 3 attempts. Has a Win update cuased it? I use Win10 pro.

Hi GreyNewt, welcome to the Microsoft community, my name is Bruno Leonel, I am happy to help you

I understand that you are having problems regarding screen lock while using Windows and I am very sorry for that.
The steps below can help you.

Confirm some settings following the steps below:

Step 1

Click on Start > Settings. (Or press the Windows + i keys simultaneously);
Click Personalization > Lock Screen;
Click on Screen saver settings, check the option On restart, display login screen;
In front of the Wait option, put the time you want and click on Apply > Ok.

Step 2

Click Start and type CMD;
In the list of search results, right-click Command Prompt and click Run as Administrator;
When prompted by User Account Control, click Continue;
Type powercfg -h off and press Enter;
No message will be displayed, it will just go to the bottom row;
Restart the computer and check the behavior.

Step 3

Run the power troubleshooter.

On the Desktop, press the Windows + R hotkeys simultaneously to open Run.
Now type Control and click OK.
In the Control Panel on the right corner under "View by" select Large Icons.
Click Troubleshooting.
In the program solution window, click Improve power usage.

Step 4

Enter power options in the Windows 10 search box. When it appears, click the Power Options item in the Windows control panel;
Under Power Options, tap Change plan settings next to the plan currently in use;
On the next screen, click Change advanced power settings;
In the window that will appear, click on “Video”. Below the item, tap Lock console display timeout and change the value to a high time, which will prevent Windows from going to the lock screen. Finally, click on the “OK” button.

Hope this helps. If so, please click Yes to the question Did this fix your problem? Because other people can be having the same difficulty and you can help them.

Many thanks for the detailed reply - I did it all but your last option - 'Video' does not appear in the dialog box. And just typing this cause the PC to sleep twice !

Dear GreyNewt, I understand that the steps above did not work and I am very sorry for that.
Sorry for the delay in the response, I was looking for a new solution,
In some forums they are reporting that the problem may be in your battery.
Try removing the battery, plugging in and checking if the problem persists.

Have a great day, I'll be waiting.

Thanks Bruno - I have now found out what is causing it.  Rather embarrassingly it was being caused by a magnetic clasp on my right wrist!!  When it came close to the edge of the touchpad the PC though the lid was closing !!
