Japanese IME not converting properly.

Hello.

Japanese IME was installed last week and it worked fine.  This week, it was disable for some reason.  Removed and re-installed.  However, it is not converting correctly.

Here is me typing out the vowels: ち に な い ら (A, I, U, E, O)  Those are not the correct kana for each vowel. But that's what is coming up.

What is going on?  Please help me fix.

Thank you.

Pua

Hi Pua,
I am Dexter, an Independent Advisor. I am here to work with you on this issue.

I think your keyboard setting goes wrong, you should go to Windows Setting and ensure your setting is correct, the attached pic is for your reference.

Hope this helps and let me know if I can help you further!

Additionally, you can also install another input method such as Google Japanese Input instead of the Windows IME, have a try and good luck!

Here is the Google Japanese Input:

Dexter,

Thank you so very much for the quick response.  I followed your picture.  I don't have the option to add another key board. I don't even have "Japanese QWERTY" as an option to select.  Please see attached photo.  The Google Japanese Input is there now because I clicked on the link you recommended I check. It works! Yes!  Thank you, thank you!

It still doesn't explain my previous issue of why my system's Japanese IME went broke.  It worked just fine on the 4th of Feb when I started my Japanese class.  I guess I can worry about that another day.  I just needed to type up my report in Japanese and that link rocks!  Thanks again, Dexter!

Beyond grateful,

Pua

Pua, I'm glad it helps.
I checked the pic you attached, and I find that you've set your keyboard layout to "Japanese keyboard (106/109 key)". That's different from the standard keyboard layout. You can see the pic I attached below.

You should click on the "Change layout" button to change your setting to "English keyboard (101/102 key)".

Dexter,

I changed the keyboard.  I even went as far as removing the google IME just so I could see if this would fix the issue and re-started the laptop.  It didn't work.  Still doing the same thing.  I then went and removed the Japanese language package and re-started the laptop.  Re-installed the package and I'm still having the same issue.  The window's IME is still not converting AIUEO correctly.  I've checked with other letters and typed out simple words that I can translate and its not converting correctly.  I just downloaded the Japanese language package on my Surface and i'm having no issues.  Works great.  But my laptop, not so much.  I'm just going to stick with the Google input.  Works great.  Again, thank you for pointing me in that direction.  I've passed that link on to my classmates in the case they run into IME issues.

Sincerely,

PuaImage
