It looks like we don't support this file format - HELP

Please help. I recently cut and pasted some photos from my samsung phone onto my PC but when I try to open said images, the following message appears: "It looks like we don't support this file format".

I've tried opening the images using other photos viewers as well as the default Window's photo viewer but to no avail. The photos are all .jpg but I have no problem opening other images in my computer with the same file format. I've tried a miriad of other applications or softwares that are meant to help but they've all failed. Because I cut them from my memory card in my phone and supposedly pasted them onto my computer, there is no other copy of these pictures. I know it was very silly to cut and paste the pictures without say copying them first or backing them up, I am aware of my mistake, but please help me in recovering them as they're of massive importance and can't bare to loose them.

* I also have to note that every time I try to open said pictures, my laptop seems to struggle a bit and ImageImage

Hi Rose

I am an independent advisor here to help

In you screenshot those images are compressed. Have you tried decompressing them prior to opening?

Select the compressed files, right click and choose properties

Then click Advanced

Uncheck the box labeled “Compress contents to save disk space”

Click OK

Hi Rose

Did this error come up when trying to decompress only one image file? or was it when trying to decompress multiple files or apply the decompression to multiple folders?

Is you C drive on your computer near full? If do do you have any other disk partitions on your PC that have free space?

Please try the following free utility to decompress these files, make sure that you choose a save location on your PC that has plenty of free space

Hello,

Yes the C drive is nearly full! I've been trying to delete some files and photos off of it to alleviate it but its been slow going. I've downloaded the decompressor you suggested but seeing how much my computer is struggling, I might leave it until morning to try again in order to give the system a bit of a break. I saved the software on another PC location which is virtually empty, as suggested.

Should deleting some files from my C drive technically help or is it solely the decompressor that should do the job? Also, should I decompress the whole of my C drive or just the folders where the pictures are posing a problem?

Maybe transferring some of those images to the other PC location do the trick?

Apologies for my ignorace in this area and thank you so much for your help so far, very much appreciate it!!

No need to apologize

You should only need to decompress the picture files not the entire C drive.

the utility that I recommended does not require there to be any available space on the C drive. You should be able to use it turn the location where you downloaded it and decompress the photos would the resulting decompressed files also ending up in the location where you have plenty of free space.

On another note however running out of space on the primary drive partition does cost many system issues and slowness. I would definitely recommend clearing up as much space on that primary partition as you can.

Nevermind, if I try to transfer the photos anywhere else, the computer says I don't have enough space. I tried moving the smallest folder with 216 photos onto the other near empty PC location it but said I needed an excess of 2.50 TB in order to do so. I also tried copying it onto a USB file but transfering 2 photos took about 10 minutes and still won't open.

Will attempt the decompressing process in the morning once my laptop has had a bit of a breather.

Again, many thanks!!

Hello again,

I've downloaded the software and attempted to run it per the instructions on the website (right-click on the archive and select click one of the UniExtract options) but it didn't appear so I tried the other way (drag and drop the file onto the launched Universal Extractor) but no matter what I do, it doesn't work. I've tried finding the path of the archive by opening the application as well as dragging and dropping onto the opened application but the following message has appeared none the less. I've uninstalled and reinstalled (thinking I might have missed a step in the installation process) but I've been unsuccessful in every new attempt.

Clearly doing something wrong but not quite sure where it is that I'm failing at...
