Issues starting a Mobile hotspot over 5GHz

Hi, I have an Asus Z690-I motherboard which has an Intel AX210 Wifi adapter, capable of supporting up to Wifi 6E.

I would like to set up Mobile hotspot on the 5GHz band for higher throughput to my Oculus Quest 2, but every time I try it, I get the error message: "The selected network band isn't available. Select a different band and try again."

Any way I could get some help in turning hotspot on?

Thanks for reaching out! My name is, Zadee. I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you. I'll be glad to help you today.

I would also like to bring up the possible cause on why you can't do that. Please refer to this link:

Hi Zadee, thank you for your quick response; I have already found both those threads on Microsoft's and Intel's websites, and have tried the solution, with no success, still getting the same error message.

I have also tried reinstalling the drivers for the AX210 fresh from Microsoft through the Device Driver, and by manually downloading them from Intel, or from Asus. None of the three fixed my 5GHz hotspot issue.

Regarding the country-specific regulatory limitations, I live in the UK, and as far as I could understand 5GHz hotspots are allowed here with no issues, and I double checked with a couple of friends with Windows 11. I asked them to turn on their mobile hotspot on the 5GHz band to double check, and it worked fine for them.

Hello Călin . I'm Greg, here to help you with this.

Try these fixes from Intel for the error:

Oculus workaround:

If none of those help I'd change the wifi adapter to one you find that works specifically for 5ghz hotspot from Windows 11. You can even get a USB nano wifi adapter similar to this:

Feel free to ask back any questions. Based on the detailed results you post back, I will have other suggestions if necessary.
