Issue with windows fax and scan windows 10 pro

Hi everyone,

I’m having an issue with Windows Fax and Scan on a Windows 10 Pro machine using a StarTech fax modem. It receives faxes fine but fails to send them. The same setup works perfectly on a dying older Windows 7 PC.

What I’ve tried:

1. Updated Windows 10 and reinstalled the OS. Upgraded to Windows 11 pro with no luck.

2. Reinstalled the Fax and Scan feature.

3. Allowed fax and scan apps through the firewall.

4. Used the same settings that works on Windows 7 PC.

Hardware: Lenovo M920Q, SSD, 16 GB RAM along with Startech USB fax modem.

If anyone has insights or solutions, I’d appreciate your help.

Sorry to hear that you are facing issues with this, here are some steps to try narrow down why your fax modem sends faxes fine on Windows 7 but not on Windows 10/11:

First, even if the hardware is the same, sometimes the Windows 10/11 OS requires an updated driver version that’s been designed or certified for the newer OS. Check StarTech’s website for the latest drivers specifically supporting Windows 10/11 for your model.

If only a Windows 7 driver is available, try installing it in compatibility mode. Right-click the driver installer >Properties >Compatibility tab >check “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” and select Windows 7.

After attempting to send a fax, check the Event Viewer for any error logs under Applications and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows > Fax or under System. The logs might give a specific error code or message that can point you to the issue.
