Is Windows blocking my popup blocker exception?

After my latest Windows 10/64 update, I can no longer get addresses in a county site which requires popups. I've added the url to "exceptions" for popup blockers in Firefox, Chrome and Edge. But with all browsers, when I type a known address into the site, I get "address not found". The help desk at the site says it is because of popups still being blocked.

Could something in Windows 10 update be messing this up? I know it's a stretch, but I am really baffled.

Many thanks for any suggestions.

Jack

Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand that you are facing issues accessing the website. We did repro this on lab PC and found the same issue that you are facing.

Are you able to access the website when you click "OK" on the pop up?

Meanwhile, I suggest you to refer and follow the suggestions mentioned below on how to enable popups for your browser.

Chrome

  1. In Chrome's URL window, highlight the entire web address of the current page, then choose the Copy command from the Edit menu or right-click and choose the Copy command.

  2. Click the icon with three horizontal bars in the upper right side of the browser toolbar.

  3. Click Settings.

  4. Scroll to the bottom of the Settings section and click Show advanced settings... .

  5. In the Privacy section, click Content settings... . The Content settings window appears.

  6. Scroll to the Pop-ups section, and then ensure the Do not allow any site to show pop-ups radio button is selected.

  7. Click Manage exceptions... .

  8. In the Hostname pattern field, choose the Paste command from the Edit menu or right-click and choose the Paste command, and ensure the Behavior dropdown menu is set to Allow.

  9. Click Done.

  10. Close any remaining dialog boxes.

Firefox

  1. In Firefox's URL window, highlight the entire web address of the current page, then choose the Copy command from the Edit menu or right-click and choose the Copy command.

  2. Click the icon with three horizontal bars in the upper right side of the browser toolbar.

  3. Select Options (Windows) or Preferences (OS X).

  4. In the left sidebar, click on the Content icon to display the Content section.

  5. In the Pop-ups section, ensure the Block pop-up windows checkbox is selected, then click the adjacent Exceptions... button.

  6. In the Address of web site: field, choose the Paste command from the Edit menu or right-click and choose the Paste command, and then click Allow.

  7. Click Save Changes.

  8. Close any remaining dialog boxes.

Internet Explorer(Windows)

When a website attempts to launch a new pop-up window, you may see dialog boxes alerting you of pop-up windows that have been blocked. Follow the instructions below to allow pop-up windows on a per-website basis.

  1. In Internet Explorer's Address field, highlight the entire web address of the current page, then right-click and choose the Copy command.

  2. From the Tools menu (the gear icon on the far right), select Internet options. The Internet Options dialog box opens.

  3. Click on the Privacy tab.

  4. Under Pop-up Blocker ensure the Turn on Pop-up Blocker checkbox is checked, and then click Settings. The Pop-up Blocker Settings dialog box opens.

  5. Right-click in the Address of website to allow: field, then choose the Paste command.

  6. Click Add.

  7. Close any remaining dialog boxes.

Edge(Windows 10 only)

Note: Currently Microsoft Edge is not an officially supported web browser for this application.

Microsoft Edge for Windows 10 has no per-website control over blocking pop-up windows. Pop-ups are either blocked, or they are not. To allow pop-ups:

  1. Click the ellipsis icon (...) in the upper right corner of your web browser, and then click Settings.

  2. In the Advanced settings section, click View advanced settings.

  3. In the Block pop-ups section, click the switch to Off. Pop-ups are now allowed.

  4. To block pop-ups once again, click the switch to On.

Hope it helps.

Vineet: Many thanks for your detailed instructions! I had pretty much followed them but there might have been a few details I missed. Anyway, I am now able to view the addresses for whose evacuation I am trying to learn.

One thing which is different: In the past, I put in the address and clicked the question mark. That no longer works and I get the message that the address is not found. Now I get a box below the query line, and if I click on the box, I get the information I want.

The only other thing I did is to allow the parent URL as well as the specific one. So I have both

https://kyz.pinellascounty.org/

and

https://pinellascounty.org/

in the allowed section of Firefox. (I didn't try it in the other browsers, since this one is working.)

Here's what I see now:
