Is Microsoft SQL CE database supported in Windows 10?

Our legacy software uses Microsoft SQL CE database version 3.5. We are working on re-architecturing the software and the software itself is intended to run on Windows 10. I am wondering if SQL CE can only be used for the new software? Does windows 10 support SQL CE v3.5 or v4.0?

Thank you.

Hello,

Based on the following support article, SQL Server Compact 3.5 SP2 and 4.0 are supported.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2681562

Hope this helps.

Thank you Alberto!

I glanced through the document and I only found this:

The following versions are supported in Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, and Windows 2012 environments:
  • SQL Server Compact 3.5 Service Pack 2 and later versions
  • SQL Server Compact 4.0 and later versions

It doesn't talk about Windows 10 support. Also the following download site for SQL CE 4.0 doesn't mention Windows 10 under "System Requirements".

Am I missing something here?

Hello,

It seems to me the documentation only needs to be updated to make it clear, but anyway I am contacting personnel at Microsoft that works with SQL documentation to confirm.

I will be replying as soon as I get a response or you may be getting a direct response from a MSFT employee.
