Is it possible to map a local folder to a drive letter and not to lose it after reboot?

subst is a command that can be used.  However, its effect is gone after reboot.  While it's possible to set up a bat in StartUp, it's not ideal.

net use seems to work better.  But does it go through sharing service when access a local folder?  if so, would that be a lot slower?

Any better alternative?

Thanks
