is it possible to have taskmanager autostart when windows boots up?

I used to be able to do this in Windows 7 but I haven't been able to figure it out in Windows 10

Thanks for your help

Hi BigGuy58, I am Paulo. I'm an Independent Advisor and an individual like you inclined to help.

It is possible to do that by creating a shortcut of Task Manager in the startup folder.

1. Open Run, type and enter shell:appsfolder
2. Locate Task Manager
3. Open Run again, type and enter shell:startup
4. Drag Task Manager from apps folder to startup folder

Let me know if this helps.

it helped a little bit.  Got an error message saying the application needs elevation.

Also, do you know the command line switches for taskmgr?

I want it to start with details and cpu index.

Thanks

Hi BigGuy58,

Try to go here and copy the Task Manager shortcut file then paste it on your startup.

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\System Tools

The one you created first can't be run as admin. By copying the shortcut there and pasting it in startup folder should do the trick. Right-click on it > Properties > Advanced > Run as administrator.

I followed directions and didn't get taskmgr or an error message

I can go to the programs/startup directory and double click on it and taskmgr starts properly

Hi BigGuy58,

Do you mean you didn't get the taskmgr shortcut in the path I provided? If so, you may search task manager on start search, right-click then Open file location. Copy that then paste it into the startup folder. Right-click on shortcut > Properties > Advanced > Check "Run as administrator".

Looks like taskmgr is harder to open automatically at startup since it needs elevation. You may try a different approach by creating an elevated shortcut to run in Task Scheduler instead. You may refer to option two in this article to open it at startup

Hi BigGuy58,

That's correct. The easiest way to confirm is to just open Windows key + R then enter shell:startup
