Is Duet Display a Microsoft Update

This morning I noticed Duet Display was downloaded to my computer. I checked to see when it was downloaded and it was yesterday 5/29, however I did not use my computer yesterday. Is this a Microsoft update or should I be concerned someone is trying to access my pc.

Hi Jo,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

Duet Display is not a Microsoft App, it is a 3rd party app used to cast or remote from device to device, Windows updates would never install that.

That may have just been installed alongside some other software you installed on your PC.

But to be sure, completely uninstall that app from your PC and then run a full offline scan with Defender or you preferred 3rd party anti-virus

I found the same Duet installed on my Windows 11 PC this morning. When I started to use the computer it said my device had a problem and had to restart, and it restarted. I had also gotten an update from Microsoft on a Defender definition, so that may have been the reason for the restart.

I have uninstalled Duet because my My digital tablet pen was hesitating when starting to paint on Corel Painter. After uninstalling and restarting the problem remains, so I'm not sure that Duet was the cause. Could Defender's new definition have any affect on performance?

I am mystified by why Duet was installed since I haven't downloaded anything from the web in quite a while.

I am also confused by Defender. I see that it is running on my system, but if I go to apps and click on Defender I'm told that I have to subscribe to Office 365 to use it. What is that about?

DaveM121, I saw this on my laptop and was immediately concerned. I went to uninstall it and the question pops up to allow this program to make changes to my computer. UM No. But it won't uninstall if I say no. I have not downloaded any other programs recently so I have no clue how it showed up. And it says it was downloaded about the same time as I opened my computer to use it. So I have removed my laptop from the internet until I get this resolved. I have checked my desktop and my older laptop, neither one have this program.

So my question is, do I allow it make changes so that I can uninstall it?

I just went out for an hour and came back to find this app installed on my laptop. No idea what has triggered this - have removed and run a scan but concerned how this can just happen - not even a click from a human to confirm!

It looks like it was installed at the same time as my last apple itunes update. Perhaps that is a valid explanation.

Where did you find this? Do you use a HP device? Could it have been a HP update?

For itunes could it have been this app mentioned in their update release

This showed up on my computer this morning. Coincidentally (or not) it came right after a Defender Virus and threat protection update. 🤔

I believe that it is related to an iTunes update. When I opened iTunes a couple of days ago, it said I needed to remove the current iTunes from my computer, and then it downloaded and installed the latest version. The appearance of Duet on my desktop coincided with this, as I did not install/update any other software on my computer (HP Envy-Windows 11) on that date (June 3).
