After a download of a driver updating program that evidently went very wrong, some of my drivers appear to have broken and/or disappeared, leaving me unable to hear any audio from my laptop whether through headphones or speakers. I feel like I've tested every other possible solution I've seen, so I need to ask if I'm somehow doing something wrong here. My primary problem was with Intel High Definition DSP before, but is has since transformed into a non-functional Intel Smart Sound Technology OED as shown below.
I've already tried uninstalling and removing it, but that just causes it to reappear when I reboot my computer, and trying to install something else over it gives a different message and causes it to still ultimately come back. I've tried installing Realtek after Resetting my entire PC (surprise, that did nothing to help either), and I don't see anything relating to them having been added to my device list. I've seen a workaround that involves the Smart Sound Audio Controller, but that would require me to still have it, and I don't, nor do I seem to be able to find a place I can get it back onto my computer. Clearly I'm doing something wrong, so can somebody help me get my audio back?

I’ve reviewed the issue, and here are the steps you can try:
1. Run the Audio Troubleshooter:
o Press Windows key + X
o Go to Settings
o Click on Update & Security
o Select Troubleshoot, then Additional troubleshooters
o Find Playing Audio and run the troubleshooter.
2. Update the Audio Driver:
o Press Windows key + X
o Go to Device Manager
o Expand Sound, video and game controllers
o Right-click on your audio driver and select Update driver
o Choose Browse my computer for drivers
o Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer
o Choose an older driver if available, then follow the prompts to install it.
o Restart your computer and check the audio.
3. Uninstall and Reinstall the Audio Driver:
o Press Windows key + X
o Go to Device Manager
o Expand Sound, video and game controllers
o Right-click on your audio driver and select Uninstall device
o If you don’t see the audio driver, download it from (https://download.lenovo.com/consumer/mobiles/lx...) (ensure it’s the correct driver for your device).
o Once downloaded, install the driver and restart your computer.
4. Configure Playback Settings:
o After restarting, go to Control Panel
o Click on Sound
o In the Playback tab, right-click on Speakers and select Set as Default Device
o Click on Properties
o Go to the Levels tab, adjust the volume to your preference, and test the audio.
I’ve attached a screenshot for reference. I hope these steps resolve your issue. If you need further assistance, please let me know.
Best regards,
Arvind

In regards to your advice:
1. The older audio troubleshooter gave the issue of
|
The newer troubleshooter could not reinstall the driver.
2. The Intel Smart Sound Technology OED does not have an older driver to change to. Attempting to update results in an identical error.
3. As stated, uninstalling the driver appears to have no effect, as the same problematic driver will return on reboot regardless of if it was deleted or not. Keep in mind that this is a System Device driver and not a Sound, video, and game controllers driver.
4. This step cannot help, as my issue is that my computer is not capable of playing audio anymore.

I have seen this fix before, but my computer does not have an Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology audio controller driver to uninstall, which may now be the primary issue. Uninstalling the OED driver by itself did not appear to help from when I was trying to work with tech support.

Thanks for the update. Could you please check if you’ve followed the steps below?
Since your system doesn’t have the Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology audio controller driver, it sounds like the issue might be related to a different driver or a deeper system configuration. Here are some steps you can try:
1. Check for Other Audio Drivers: Open Device Manager (Win + X > Device Manager) and expand the Sound, video, and game controllers section. Look for any drivers that might be related, such as Realtek, High Definition Audio, or other third-party drivers. Try updating or uninstalling/reinstalling them.
2. Run Windows Troubleshooter:
o Go to Settings > System > Sound > Troubleshoot.
o Follow the on-screen instructions to see if Windows can detect and fix the issue.
3. Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers: Outdated BIOS or chipset drivers can sometimes cause hardware compatibility issues. Visit your PC or motherboard manufacturer's website to download and install the latest BIOS and chipset drivers.
4. Check Windows Update for Optional Driver Updates:
o Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
o Click on View optional updates, then look for any available driver updates related to audio or the system.
5. Reset Audio Services:
o Press Win + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
o Restart services like Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder by right-clicking each service and selecting Restart.
Let me know if these steps help, or if there are any specific error messages or symptoms you're encountering—I'd be happy to provide further assistance!
Best regards,
Arvind

i found this answer here Re:New version of Intel® Smart Sound Technology (Intel® SST) block all my audio (input and output) - Intel Community
I would like to suggest few recommendations to fix the issue you are having after updating the drivers.
1. Open Device manager
2. In System devices > Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(R) SST) Audio Controller
3. Right click and select Update driver
4. Select Browse my computer for driver software
5. Select let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer
6. Select High Definition Audio controller and install.
and this tip is mine: you have to write down the name of the driver you had installed (how?...just managed yourself to)
i had the same problem but i wrote down the name of the previous driver (the one that was working fine) intel smart sound technology bus 10.29.0.9947 realeased oct 12 2023.
what do you need this for? you need it for choosing the appropiate drive when a list of available drivers appears or shows when you get to the number 5 step, there you will have to choose a driver, and you must choose intel smart sound technology realeased oct 12 2023.

I am in the same boat. Nothing works. I have no realtek audio device anymore after the latest updates. I also do not have Intel(R) Smart Sound Technology (Intel(R) SST) Audio Controller in my device manager either. (Even after hitting show hidden devices) I've updated my BIOS and many others, but nothing has helped. When I delete the intel smart sound technology OED, it comes back! Seriously thinking of leaving Microsoft for Apple out of this mess between their updates and Intel's.
