Install Windows 10 from BIOS and a Hard Drive

Hi all,

My name is Thomas.

I have retrieved a PC from the previous company of my wife.

It has not been formated and is account is disabled.

HP EliteBook 840 G5, Intel Core I5 8th generation.

I don't have a windows session password.

The BIOS was inaccessible but I manage to solve this part thanks to a member of the community (it's Binh Repaired).

The BIOS is protected by an admin password that obviously I don't have.

I don't have access to the UEFI boot order option.

USB Storage Boot option is checked.

I have, in my name, an official version of Windows 10, build 19044 (ISO file, and extracted files from the ISO file) on another PC.

I would like to install my Windows 10 at the BIOS stage.

If I am correct from an USB stick the file size is limited to 4GB and my ISO file weight about 4.8GB.

Is it possible to perform the installation from a HardDrive ?

Any advice or helpfull website would be more than appreciated.

Warm regards,

Thomas

Hi ,
Sabya here, Independent Windows Adviser. Hope you are doing well.

Windows installation has to be done using a bootable usb. It cannot be performed from the hard drive.
The limit is not 4gb. A minimum of 8GB usb flash drive is recommended.
If you are trying to install Windows 10 the boot order must be USB first or in the UEFI setting you must choose USB or else booting will not commence.

You can refer to the video link for the process -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJCkI14Lcd4

Now to address your issues -
As BIOS is protected - You can clear it using the Jumper and battery removal
https://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000235.htm

Bootable USB -
Please create a fresh bootable USB, follow the video on the steps
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...
Click on Download now below
Create Windows 10 installation media
and run it to create it.

Now if you want to skip the BIOS protection issue and clearing with the Jumper fails
Then take the hard drive out and plug it into another pc, format it and then plug it back in and it will boot up from USB as there is no Windows installed.
