iLok PACE error installing (cannot find _installer.msi), tpkd.sys incompatible

i had an old iLok installation and after windows update it's all stopped to work.
it was a v3.1.7.1901 of 2017 well first you can disable loading driver tpkd.sys in registry or move it from system32/drivers

in windows/installer folderi had 3d21e.msi 451f672.msi, but you can just check the date of installation of PACE
(if you can, because windows will erase it, so check the iLok folder date)

you can try to uninstall with right click on .msi file, but it didn't anything for me and i had errors with install

so then i opened regedit (try O&O regedit - it's free) and search for words "iLok" and "PACE"

you will find some - right click in the left part and export full "folder" of that string, then clear or delete it, go for next

when you clean all (i had 3-4), you will be able to install new v5 or whatever it will be.

if you will have old installation - you can get an error after rebooting tpkd.sys incompatible blue screen
boot from any windows installation media, goto cmd
open regedit and load hive /system32/config/SYSTEM get to  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tpkd
set start=4

or you can get autoruns by sysinternals and boot windows from some windows.live.boot DVD, or previous version backup,
i had an old version, so i booted into it or just get hd to another comp, then run autoruns with admin rights and you'll get "load Offline"so when youload it, go to drivers and find tpkd.sys to disable. go back to normal boot.
you can revert many boot errors this way.

Hello,

Just went for a fresh Windows 10 install and I cannot get PACE iLok to work properly.

The new iLok version kind of works, in the sense that it doesn't cause issues to my Windows, but it throws errors on some licensed plugins that I need (included with Pro Tools) during Pro Tools startup, so it's unusable.

Therefore, I need to install the older iLok (located in "Old installers" when you download the latest iLok version from https://www.ilok.com/) in order to get Pro Tools 10 work with its included AAX plugins.

Problem is, that older iLok throws blue screen pointing to Tpkd.sys, or it just reboots during the windows/uefi logo loading without showing any error. In any case I can resolve this boot failure using recovery command line and renaming Tpkd.sys to another name, or by using a restore point. But then Pro Tools won't start at all, cannot use the iLok key.

I've been messing around with my older windows that I still have (it's on another SSD), that is in the build prior du 2004, but I couldn't find a way to make the older driver on it work on build 2004, it's throwing the exact same issues as if I installed the "latest Old installer".

I need to get this new Windows install working, this fresh install being needed upgrading to an NVME SSD and ultimately after switching from Intel to AMD, a reinstall is much advised to prevent many issues.

Any help appreciated to get this older driver working.

well, if you have programming skills, maybe you can make a script that will rename tpkd.sys with shutdown and after log-in to windows, but i'm not sure that it will work anyway. because those services can be hanged.
you can try rename it by hands, then boot in and rename back then start your iLok.
maybe you just need an old windows7 parallel boot to have those plugins or maybe you can install newest iLok and then try to fix errors of those plugins (get & update maybe). maybe you can install VST version instead of AAX and use it through ReWire host?
