I want to convert handwriting in Windows Journal to text in a text box.

Hello Community,

Please help me with Windows Journal as follows:

I have been using the Convert Handwriting to Text feature very often, and almost invariably use the Insert in the same Journal note option in the Text Correction dialog box. But just now I used the Copy to the Clipboard option instead, and accidentally checked the Always copy the text to the Clipboard (At that time I thought that by doing so, the text would automatically be copied to the clipboard eliminating the need to select that option manually, and it did). What I didn't realize was that the Text Correction dialog box would not appear again the next time I used it - as a result, I could no longer insert the converted handwriting into my Journal note. Well, I still could, but had to take a much longer route by first creating a new text box, pasting it, and deleting my original handwriting, which was exactly what the Insert in the same Journal note option did in a snap.

As I really needed that option back, I tried going to tools => options => other => restore... to restore default settings, but a dialog warned me that all other settings, including menu and toolbar layouts, would be reset also, and that is not what I want. But I have a feeling that this would be only way to restore the Text Correction dialog box and the Insert in the same Journal note option. Am I right, or is there some hidden method - maybe hacking the registry - that I can use to cancel the Always copy the text to the Clipboard setting or even better, set Insert in the same Journal note as default instead?

Thanks,

Answer

Hello,

Thank you for visiting Microsoft.

There is no registry settings to undo Text Correction setting in Windows Journal.

You may try resetting Windows Journal settings to default as suggested by Mann_Manohar above, but be aware that resetting Windows Journal settings to default resets all other settings, including menu and toolbar layouts.

Refer the picture below:

If you do not wish to reset the complete Winnows Journal Text Correction settings to default, you may restore your computer to an earlier point in time before making Windows Journal settings changes as suggested above.

Please write us back with the results, we'll be glad to assist you.
