I want to add a Windows 11 device to family safety but can't because the only option is "add a Windows 10 device", how do I get around this?

Family Safety has stopped working on my Windows 11 PC after a warranty repair which replaced the faulty motherboard. The time restrictions show up as though the PC is a Windows 10PC but it is a Windows 11PC, and none of the time restrictions work. Zero time is reported, including on the iphonre family safety app.

If I click on "add a new device" whilest in my admin account on the PC it only offers me the option to add Windows 10 PCs.

When I click on "Lock Devices" it actually does show a Windows 11 device but the switch as zero effect in stopping my child from logging into his controlled account and using the PC as long as he wants. None of the time shows up in parental controls either on PC family safety web page nor on Iphone famaily safety app.

When I check devices under my microsoft acount I see a Windows 11 PC with a Windows 10 OS build??

Hello rustyaz,

Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

We understand your doubts about the family safety features in Windows. Let me give you some explanations and suggestions to your current situation:

Regarding your first screenshot, it is because this page has not been updated for quite a long time, and this "Add a Windows 10 device" is actually a guide telling you how to add Windows devices. Regardless of your device is Windows 10 or 11, you can select this option to proceed.

And the second image, that you found this switch does not take effect when you toggle on it. In fact, it's because there is a noticeable time lag between turning on the switch and the setting taking effect. And if you want to lock your child Ewan's device, go to Windows Settings - Accounts - Family, to find and manage your child's device here.

Finally, the third screenshot, is no doubt a display issue caused by changing the motherboard. You can temporarily remove the current device, and add it back later to check for your issue. Also you can check your local system information in Windows Settings - System.
