I updated Windows 11 to the 24H2 version, the activation for it was removed

As soon as the update was made, my system displayed that Windows is not activated any longer.

I did a lot of research and troubleshooting.

Tried to use the Windows Activation troubleshooter, it just says that "We weren't able to activate Windows on this device.

I tried to change the product key found in the Windows registry, it constantly says "We can't activate Windows on this device because you don't have a valid digital license or product key. If you think you do have a valid license or key, select Troubleshoot below. (0x803fa067).

Okay, then I checked the product key within the ShowKeyPlus program, it says that is a valid edition for Win 10 RTM Core OEM:NONLSP.

I forgot to mention that i bought the PC with the Windows 11 HOME version Pre-installed.

I also tried to run some commands in Command Prompt that reinstall the activation files, or that unlinks/links the product key, even within PowerShell, none of this worked.

What am i missing here, or why is this version of Windows so bugged that basically is costing it's consumers time/maybe money?

Hello, this is Emily.

Go to Settings > System > Activation > Change product key. Input the product key again. That should do the trick.

I mentioned that I tried this step, it didn't work. The only option I had is to revert to the 23H2 version, in which my Windows is still active. I'm not going to upgrade to the 24H2 version, hopefully they will fix this issue in the next one's.

Sorry my bad, I totally left out this detail - it is NOT the key you found in registry. It needs to be the key on the sticker on your device. They are not the same thing.

Per licensing terms, when computer builders use OEM-NSLP keys, they must put the stickers on the device they build and sell. This sticker can be located on the back, see if you can find it.

Troubleshooter will not work for your scenario as it is for digital license only.

Ok here is what worked for me.

I had gone through every other advice that was suggested in the internet and I did make sure that my current device was linked to my microsoft account. None of the suggested options worked till i did the following:

I went to the Microsoft Store and got an app called ShowKeyPlus. When you run it, in the first page there is a field called "Original Key". Copy that down and then go to System > Activation (just go to Settings and search for activation). Then i clicked "change product key" and entered the string i got from the Original Key field in ShowKeyPlus and then after an hour long of frustration it just activated.

Hope this helps.

Hi this is just getting ridiculous. Seems like this update 24H2 is a virus that is blocking my internet when I try to activate, troubleshoot or download this ShowKeyPlus but only when I,m performing these actions. I uninstalled these 2 updates work fine without the logo "activate windows" up until the next restart.

Hey Emily!

I tried for HOURS to get the new 24H2 update to work for my custom-built PC, as I originally had a physical product key for the 23H2 version. I just tried your method, and it solved my problem almost instantly! I didn't think I'd have to "Change" my product key when it technically hadn't changed at all. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
