I need to find out the windows 8.1 activation key

Hey,

I bought a hp laptop today and there was windows 8.1 already installed.. I need to put in the activation key.. so i called up the microsoft technical support.. the support guy ask me the install id and helped me out with the activation key which i put in the system and activated it. but i forgot to take a print shot or write down that activation key he gave me .. so if, for future reference i need that activation key then where should i find it..? I want to document the key and save it.  Can you help please

Why do you need to enter the Product Key?

OEM (pre-installed) versions of Windows 8 self-activate.

Hey Andre -  it's pre-installed Windows. The OP shouldn't need to enter the PK. Something else going on here the OP hasn't told us.

just use the link Andre provided ...run the program...copy and paste the product key to notebook and save to file for future reference...simple.*john

Hi thereI was not able to do activate windows using the  slui.exe 3 and the code

But my other computer is 8.1 and the window key plus "r" isn't working. I am unable to finish the updates too.

Any suggestions?

try computer right click, click properties look at the bottom after a while it should show your product key

Note these instructions are for windows 7 should be like the same thing

I did this and its saying that product ID: not available

And that windows isn't activated. It was activated then I updated windows 8 and now it wont update completely without a product id.

no, its not self activated. when i bought the computer.. there was a written instruction with the microsoft toll free technical assistance number..that i need to call them up and give then the 9 install ids.. each install id is of 7 digits... i gave the numbers to the support guy.. and he helped me out with the activation key over phone... he told me to take a print shot of it.. but i sumhow did a little delay and windows got activated the screen changed..redirected to the success page and the call got disconnect automatically

That's the product ID, not the product key--two different things.
