I have widnows 11 isntalled, what will happen if i disable csm to enable secure boot?

Hello,

A game i want to play (valorant if you need to know) needs me to have secure boot enabled, but i didn't enable it when i installed windows 11, I know how to enable it, but i have to disable csm, I asked online of what will happen if i disable csm, and they all say i would have to reinstall windows 11, is that true? if so i also have another question, if i reinstall and change boot settings, can i still use the "save my files" feature when i install with a USB stick? thanks

Hi Arav Bende,

I am Dave, I will help you with this.

1
Typically to be able to install or upgrade to Windows 11, BIOS would need to be in UEFI Mode with CSM disabled and Secure Boot and TPM enabled.

What method did you use to install Windows 11 on your PC that allowed you to do that without enabling Secure Boot?

2
If you disable CSM and enable Secure Boot there may be a problem booting Windows 11, sometimes that can be fixed by resetting the TPM keys in BIOS and then Windows will start.

Before you do try that option, please backup your personal files.

3
If you need to re-install Windows 11 from a bootable USB to enable Secure Boot, there will be no option to keep you personal files or apps, you would need to backup all your personal files before re-installing Windows 11.

Interesting that you got it installed with csm enabled :-O

Windows 11 requirement: "you will need to switch the PC boot mode from one enabled as “Legacy” BIOS (also known as “CSM” Mode) to UEFI/BIOS (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface)"

Hi Arav Bende,

If you do not use Bitlocker to encrypt you drive, use these steps.

Boot into BIOS, on the same tab used to enable Secure Boot, find the option to reset TPM keys to Factory, apply that, enable Secure Boot and save those settings.
