I have de-activated my old computer windows 10 product key but when i use the key on my new prebuild windows 11 pc, its unsuccessful

Hi,

the story is i recently bought a new PC that is prebuilt with unauthorised windows 11, i initially thought that i can transfer the product key from my old PC hence i uninstall the product key from the old pc and then tried keying in the new computer but i received the 0x803F7001 error.

May i check whether theres anybody that i can contact on microsoft to help me as i do not want to waste money when the product key is transferrable.

If may I ask does the Windows 10 license key edition is the same as the Windows 11 edition installed on the new PC, either Home or Pro edition?

Also, verify if the license type is a Retail license. Kindly follow the steps below.

1. Go to the Microsoft store. Search for ShowKeyPlus in the MS store search bar
2. Download and Install the app.
3. Once done, run the app. Go to the "Check edition" option.
4. Enter your product key then click the Check button.

Hi van, yes both are home edition. Yes my license is a retail type.

Does Windows 10 come from a free upgrade of Windows 7/8? If yes, have you tried using the original license key to activate Windows 11?

On your old PC, you can retrieve the original license key by using the Showkeyplus app. Once you retrieve the original key, you can then use it to activate Windows 11 on your new PC.

Will i still be able to find the original key since i have already de activated the key from the old pc?

If you haven't formatted your old PC. You can try retrieving the original product key. I have also uninstalled the license key from my Windows 10 PC which came from Windows 7 before. Still, I was able to retrieve the original Windows 7 key using the Showkeyplus app.

Hi Van, what are the steps to retrieve it on my old pc

Currently i am on my old pc but on windows product information i only see the same key that i used on my new pc.

In the product information, you should see like in the attached image. The original product key is the Windows 7 key, and the installed is the Windows 10 digital license after being upgraded to Windows 10.

Does your license key is linked to your Microsoft account? If yes, as an alternative you can also try using your account to activate Windows 11 by using the activation troubleshooter.
