I get this pop-up page saying my computer is infected with virus and call Microsoft at 1-855-656-6781 for tech support

It happens every now and then (like once a month) and I have to logout and start all over. to get rid of that message.

How can I remove it? I went into Uninstall file list and found none with suspicious software.

That's a Fake Virus scam which can emanate from a mistyped URL it occupies.

Close the Browser window using whichever method is necessary, as it cannot escape the browser unless you download something from the page.

If you cannot close the browser window, right click the Task Bar or press Ctrl + Alt + Delete keys to open the Task Manager, choose Show Less Details, highlight the browser and choose End Task.

If this fails hold the power button to Shut Down. If you do this Edge may reload the page when it starts back up, but it will also give you an option to Start Fresh to avoid opening the previous tabs.

Also in Edge, if you try to X out of the browser WIndow, it may present a dialogue box to end the session. The webpage is allowed to put text in the box but cannot stop it from closing the WIndows when you choose OK, so that is safe to do.

If you called the scammers and they installed anything on your PC, open Settings>Apps, organize by Date, uninstall anything on that date you didn't install yourself. Then run a full scan with Malwarebytes and AdwCleaner. You can turn off the MB trial version in it's Control Panel.

If you paid them anything, notify your bank that you were scammed.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I'll keep working with you until this is resolved.

It's also possible that a Favorites, shortcut or auto-complete in browser is filling in the incorrect URL which is causing this to repeat. Take note of what you're typing or shortcut you're selecting at the time then remove it from the autocompletes (right click to Delete if possible) or shortcuts/Favorites as soon as possible.

Hi S1969, it is a scam !!

Do not click on anything that page
Open Task manager and end your browser from the list of processes
Do not phone the support phone number
Do not give them remote access to your PC
Do not give them payment

Run a scan with the free version of Malwarebytes and then restart your PC

PHONE SCAM
For the most relevant information on Microsoft Tech Support Scams, please visit the Microsoft Tech Support Scams page ( https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/wdsi/threats/su... ). We (that is “real” MS Speaking) can ensure this page stays updated with the most relevant information involving support scam trends, techniques, and solutions.

Yes, what you are asking about sounds like a classic “Phone Support Scam”. MS does not make “cold calls” to customers. MS does not provide informatation to partners about your computer for them to make “cold calls”. So if someone calls and says they want to help you fix your computer, that is a red flag that this is almost certainly a scam.

One way to do you own confirmation check is do internet searches for the phone number, ie google/bing “Scam ###-####”. There are a number of sites setup to track phone numbers used by scammers.

I found the next article link. If you have some spare time, next time you get a call you can have some fun with these creeps. With a little luck they will add you to their “wise guy, do not call list”. You can hope.
