I don't have my recovery key for my microsoft

My microsoft surface need a recovery key to start up but I don't have a recovery key how do I reboot

The current forums originally had Windows Client for IT Pros section, but have recently migrated to Microsoft Learn, so you need to take the trouble to post your questions in Microsoft Learn. (Originally recovery key related questions were handled by the technical staff of this section)

I assume you see a blue screen prompting for a BitLocker recovery key.

As you have a Surface device it was probably set with encryption during the out of box setup and recently something has been detected prompting for the recovery key.

This key should be present in the account used during the initial setup.

If you do not have access to the key the only option is a clean install deleting all data on the internal drive.

Do you have an external backup of your personal files?
