I customized .exe file icon and now need to reset only it (the .exe icon) to default icon

Hi all,

I have a highly customized system and among the changes I made to other icons, I somehow changed my .exe icon too, MEANING that most ALL .exe files now have the SAME custom icon rather than the icon for each program like they are generally supposed to have. (Example: Audio64.exe and NisSrv.exe SHARE the SAME custom icon).

My question is, how do I "reset" JUST the .exe icons back to default, please? Note that the .exe icon is the ONLY icon I would like to revert/change back.

Thanks!

Hello KimCollins101,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Let me help you to restore the custom icons to their default values.

First of all, what software did you use to change the program icons? Please uninstall it.

Then go to the app store and download the windows "theme" and apply it to Windows.

Or you can click individual program to manually restore the default value of the program icon .

1. Right click on the program you want to change the icon for > Properties > In the properties window.

2. We copy down all the file paths in the "Target" column.

3. In the Properties window, click "Change Icon", and in the pop-up window under the words "Find icons in this file" in the path input field, paste the path we copied earlier.

4. Click "OK" twice in a row, and then click "OK" or "Apply" in the Properties window. In this way, our software shortcut icon will be back to its default value.
