I can't remove a Protected Folder in Windows Defender

Hello, I made a video to showcase what is happening. I'm trying to remove a Steam game from my protected folders in Windows Defender because my save data got corrupted, and I need to be able to wipe it to start fresh. Every time I try, Defender closes out during and the folder remains protected. I basically am bricked from playing this specific game now.

Hi endofallflesh, My name is Jeremy, a Windows Independent Adviser. I'll be happy to help you out today. Let’s see what I can do.

I understand your frustration there and I apologize for any inconvenience it may cause you. Rest assured that I will do my best to help you

If removing it on settings doesn't seem to work, please try to remove it using PowerShell

1. Open PowerShell. (Windows + X) select PowerShell

2. Enter the command below into PowerShell and press Enter.

Remove-MpPreference -ControlledFolderAccessProtectedFolders "FullPathOfFolder"

Replace the "FullPathOfFolder" in the above command with the actual full path of the directory (eg " D: My protected folder ") you want to delete.

For example:

Remove-MpPreference -ControlledFolderAccessProtectedFolders "D: My protected folder"

3. Press enter and now you can close PowerShell.

Let me know if it works
Kind regards,
Jeremy
