I can't get rid of "File Download-Security Warning" message in my links

After updating W10 last evening, I am suddenly getting the "File Download-Security Warning" message every time I try to open a link. My Bookmarks toolbar is still OK. I have tried some the methods shown on the Community and Microsoft web sites to correct it. Some of the sites say press start and type inetcpl.cpt. The only problem is that I don't see a place to type when I hit the start button. Do they mean "Search"? I've been through the steps in the menu to change the launch setting and have restarted the computer to no avail. Has anyone got a surefire way to change it back to where it was before last nights W10 update? This is very frustrating.

Same. Yeah, I tried all the recommendations too. Seems like Microsoft broke this functionality and needs to patch this. (They even removed the checkbox that said, "Always ask before opening this file" so you could uncheck it...now it's just gone). I might try the registry changes next to always allow files with certain extensions through.

Same issue after latest update. Very annoying extra step. Internet links from desktop open as usual. Only "Links" seems to be affected.

Try this, it worked for me.

At an elevated command prompt, run the following two commands.

PUSHD %userprofile%\Favorites

ICACLS *.URL /L /T /SETINTEGRITYLEVEL MED

That should fix the problem.

Note: If your .url file(s) have a location other than "%userprofile%\Favorites" then simply change the first line's path instruction to wherever your file(s) are located.

The second command will also work on any subfolders of the first line's location, but any separate locations elsewhere on your system will have to be dealt with individually.

Hope this helps. :-)

If you have links in other location(s) besides your user Favorites folder, then simply change the first line to match their location.

If you have multiple locations, then each one will have to be dealt with individually, one at a time.

Same. Every time they make "enhancements" they end up F'ing something up. This is the reason why I haven't taken the Windows 11 update no matter how many times they try to shove it down my throat. I need a new computer soon though so......

Yes Sir..That did it for me... Thanks Bro. For the Links toolbar I changed the directory to where my links are by typing cd: C:\Users\%Userprofile%\Favorites\Links and then ran those commands

Yessir .. thank you David .. This is the solution alright (for realigning 'Favorites'), and what I have been working on for nearly 10 days just took me 60 seconds to correct thanks to your 'tried and true method'. Well done Sir, and I really am grateful to you for posting such an easy explanation, the 'how to', and ultimately ---> the Solution ( can you tell I'm excited ? ).
