I cannot switch to desktop mode in Windows 10. The setting automatically switches me to laptop mode even though I have specified in the settings that desktop mode is preferred. How do I fix this?

I am being switched to laptop mode even though I have specified in settings that I prefer desktop mode.  I cannot get desktop mode to stay.  What can I do?  Thanks.
Hi Ellensh, this can be resolved with a registry fix . . .

Click your Start Button, type regedit and hit Enter to open the Registry Editor

In the left pane navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE/Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Immersiveshell

On the right hand Pane:

Double click TabletMode and set its value to 0

Double click SignInMode and set its value to 1

Important - Restart the PC

That's It!

Hi Ellensh,

How far did you get, and what do you not see that I indicated?

This is what I got when I entered "regedit".  I don't see "tabletmode" in the right pane, only what I pasted below.

Hi Ellensh, I see the problem . . .

In the left pane navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE/Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Immersiveshell

Pretend you are in file explorer, not the registry Editor

Expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER

Then expand SOFTWARE

Then expand Microsoft

And so on with Windows then CurrentVersion

T'ill you finally open immersiveshell

Then on the right hand side you will see the required values:

Double click TabletMode and set its value to 0

Double click SignInMode and set its value to 1

Important - Restart the PC

That's It!

Hi DaveM121,

I followed your instructions to find that both the TabletMode and SignInMode were already set to the values you indicated.  Restarted my PC and I'm still in Tablet Mode.  Any other suggestions or am I just doomed ;)

Thank you for your patience and expertise...
