i am told 'There are no HI-SPEED USB host controllers installed on this computer' but i do have usb2.0

Basically, windows suddenly stopped recognising that i DO have Usb 2.0 and now my external and such are transferring data at 1mb/s. Just days ago i was copying at around 28mb/s. i may have caused this by foolishly trying to update drivers and may have screwed up something. Short of reinstalling windows (which i will be doing if i cannot fix this) or system restore (ive tried 3 times today) is there a way to fix this, i suppose by finding a driver for my USB ports?

My system is: windows 7 64 bit,    motherboard is JW Technology: JW-IG31-MKII,   dont know how to find my chipset,   the hardrive which i was using and was going at 1mb/s is a few years old but was operating at full speed today on my mates computer so i think thats out of the question. I think that is all unless you need more information

thanks in advance!

Answer
I think i have solved my problem. Reading on intel support site, they said some thing about BIOS. so in bios i used 'optimised defaults' and must have corrected anything i done because instantly on logon, a screen appeared and showed that enhanced drivers or something installed.
