I am receiving emails that are not addressed to me.

I get many, many advertising emails that are not addressed to me.  Where the FROM and TO and SUBJECT line is, theTO is NOT MY email address.  Why is this and how can I stop it?

E-mail programs have a TO: line, a CC: (carbon copy) line, and a BCC:
(blind carbon copy) line.

The BCC: line is used by many of us, not for advertising, but when we
want to send a message to a bunch of people, without everyone seeing
the addresses of the others it was sent to. So typically, when we do
that, we put our own address in the TO: line and the addresses of the
real recipients in the BCC: line.

That's likely what was done in the advertising mail you get.

You can set a message rule where if the message is not to you then move it to a junk folder.  Then you can screen the junk folder and delete what is really junk.
