HTTP 400 Error Using Microsoft Edge

I have found a couple of links at my school that give me an HTTP 400 error when I click on them using Microsoft Edge.  When I go to another computer that uses Internet Explorer, I can follow the links without a problem.  Is there a setting in Edge or Windows 10 that I need to adjust or is there an issue at the school?

Hi Bryan,

Welcome to Microsoft Community and thank you for your interest in Windows 10.

I understand the inconvenience that you are experiencing. I will definitely assist you.

To understand the issue better, I would like to know which website are you trying to open?

The ‘’HTTP 400’’ error is an HTTP [Hyper Text Transfer Protocol] status code that means that the request you sent to the website server (i.e. a request to load a web page) was somehow malformed therefore the server was unable to understand or process the request.

I would recommend you to add the website you are having issue to the trusted site list on Internet explorer and check if it helps. Here are the steps below to add the websites to the trusted site list.

  1. Press Windows key + R and type inetcpl.cpl and hit enter.

  2. Click on the Security Tab.

  3. Select the Trusted Site option

  4. Click on Sites. You can add the sites to the zone and all the websites in this zone will use the zone’s security settings.

  5. Click on Apply and Ok

Follow the below link for more information on Get help with website error messages (HTTP errors)

Hope this helps. Post us with the status we will be glad to help you.

Thank you... I read your reply and tried it....  the site just gets caught in an unending cycle of trying to reach the page... I don't receive an error, but the address bar keeps switching back and forth between addresses.  The web site is a community college site used to register, view bills, view schedule, etc.  It uses https ...

I gave up on Edge and now use Explorer again (which works fine).  I've talked to other folks at the school and they have similar problems with Edge on multiple Web sites...  I guess Edge isn't quite ready for the world -- or the world is quite ready for Edge....

Hi Bryan

I think your problem was misunderstood - a suggestion to fix an explorer problem which you did not have,

I have also had the http 400 error when using Edge, However, I can use IE IN THE SAME SYSTEM without problem.

My conclusion, for what it is worth, is that it is an Ms bug, either in Edge or the privacy/security set-up which edge uses,

I would dare to suggest that you continue to use IE until Ms bring forward a fix. Not to be cheeky, but just in case -

right click on desktop to create a new shortcut and use browse to select IE as it:s target.

Good luck

You can also get this type of errors, when you have javascript errors on the page.

I've faced with similar problem. Some javascript that was valid in other browser, raises errors in Edge. This causes stopping javascript execution. And I got unexpected HTTP 400, while in other browsers, even IE, all was OK.

You can check it in Developer console and if you have errors it can be a reason. If you are not developer of the site or web-application you just can submit bug report about it.

Regards
