How to unlock a Bitlocker encrypted folder on a external drive using the recovery key?

Years ago I encrypted a folder on my hard drive with Bitlocker and saved the bitlocker certificate. But somehow I lost the certificate file that I used to unlock the folder by installing it. However, I have the Bitlocker Recovery key to that folder. I tried googling but couldn't find any solution that worked.

So, I'm trying to find a way to unlock the folder using the recovery key code. Is there a way?

You absolutely need that recovery key or you are sunk.

But when data is removed from a Bitlocker-protected drive it is automatically decrypted. Whatever encryption you used on the folder you still need to find the key to unlock it.

I'm not sure but maybe a mounted folder can be protected with Bitlocker.

Perhaps the folder is encrypted with the Encrypting File System:
