How to stop getting Genuine Windows message without purchasing a new version of Windows.

I purchased my laptop with windows 7 back in 2010 and starting 12/11/2014 have received several messages that my version of Windows in not genuine.  I have run the validation three times and each time have been sent to a screen with one option, purchase an updated version.  Not Going To Happen. Period.

I am college student working on my senior Thesis, I don't use this laptop for games or other graphics heavy stuff so I am not interested in whatever new bells and whistles have been released.

So here is what I need:

Get rid of this message without screwing up my computer or loosing the thousands of hours of research and work I have done.  I am a student which means I don't have the money to pay for storing a copy of hard drive somewhere and I would need an entire hard drive to back up what I have collected over the last 5 years.

Thanks.

I suggest you run the Microsoft Genuine Advantage Diagnostics Tool in normal mode and copy and paste the results in a reply for further analysis:

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

Run the Tool and when it completes click the Copy button, open a text file like Word or Notepad and select Edit, Paste. You can paste directly into a reply here. Open a reply, right click and select Paste.

Always remember to set a System Restore point before doing any work on your computer,  and back up all your personal data etc.

Plan for the worst and hope for the best.
