How to remove a default file association app from a file type in Windows 8.1?

I downloaded a file for a school project and due to some ambiguities I set a path to open the file and latter realized that was a fatal mistake. I need to undo the default path so I can proper use the file the way it is supposed to be used.

Specifically, I downloaded a protected function for MATLAB and thought I needed to open it with MATLAB, but now I need the file to have no path it opens with.

Thanks!

Hi Parker,

On your Desktop, create a dummy file with a .bat or .exe file extension

Right click any zip file, choose open with - Choose another App
Check the box marked 'Always use this app to open zip files' - IMPORTANT!
Scroll to the bottom and click 'More Apps'
Again scroll to the bottom and choose 'Find another app on this PC'
Navigate to the dummy file on your Desktop
The zip file will not open

Delete the dummy file on your Desktop and restart your PC

The file association will then be broken!
