Hey Folks,

However the windows 7 ultimate was not a genuine ... the Q is how do I reinstall the original Windows 7 home premium OA as I don't have the laptops CD's that came with it ie: acer aspire 5741 G.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer

Try using the recovery partition first if it is operable.

New computers that come preinstalled with Windows often have what is called a recovery partition. This is used to reinstall the operating system in the event of a system crash. To access it, you will need to boot into when you start your computer by pressing a function key. This can be either F1, F2, F9, F10, F11, F12 or even DEL or Tab key. Consult the owners manual that came with your PC for instructions about how to reinstall Windows.

This is how the recovery partition is accessed for the most popular makes..

For Acer, press and hold ALT + F10 as soon as you see the logo

If the recovery partition is not working, then you will have to manually reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium:

Step 1: Download and create a bootable copy, then burn to a blank DVD:

Download Windows 10, 8, 7 ISOs

https://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/67-microsoft-windows-iso-download-tool

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD

Click Install Now

Accept License Agreement

When the option is displayed to select an installation type, click (Custom Advanced)

Click Drive Options

Select the drive/s click Delete

Click New

Click Apply

Click OK

Click Format and click Next to proceed with the installation

Step 2: activate using your OEM Product key attached to the COA sticker:

Another option you have is to clean the drive:

Download ESET Removal tool

Burn it to a CD or create a bootable USB thumb drive with it:

http://www.eset.com/us/download/utilities/

ESET SysRescue Live is a live Linux distribution that can scan for malware and clean infected files. It runs from a CD/DVD or a USB device, independently of the host operating system, but has direct access to the disk and file system. This makes it possible to remove threats that under normal operating conditions might be impossible to delete.

Download and Create your ESET SysRescue Live disk

You can also try doing a system restore before you started experiencing this problem:

There are some that will hide your files/folders so that you cannot see them normally. I would highly suggest running a scan of your computer with your antivirus/antimalware software. If you need it, you can also use the Microsoft Safety Scanner, it's free:

http://www.microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Also, if your files are hidden, please see the following article on how to unhide them:
