How to REALLY change computer name in Windows 10?

So I changed my computer name from generic DESKTOP-0LALO37 to Donner and all seems fine and well in windows menus. However, after several reboots ipconfig /all still outputs the DESKTOP-0LALO37 as hostname.

I require this data to be uniform as I use several software solutions using FlexLm licensing. Help?

I understand your concern regarding the issue that you are facing.

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

1. Press Windows + pause/break.
2. Select system protection on the left pane.
3. Select computer name under system properties.
4. Select To rename this computer or change its domain or workgroup click change.
5. Change the name and follow the instruction.

May be the Software which you are using is taking the default name of the computer.

Hi,


Open a Command Prompt (Adimin) window:
Win+X, A, Alt+Y


Then run the following command in it to change your computer name to Donner:
wmic ComputerSystem where "name='%ComputerName%'" call rename Donner


Reboot your computer, then try to run ipconfig /all command, you should find that the Host Name in Windows IP Configuration list already has been changed to Donner.

I get the error message "Invalid Verb Switch" when I run the above command

wmic ComputerSystem where "name='%ComputerName%'" call rename Dell-laptop

What does this mean?

I've changed my computer name to Dell-laptop in all places but it still shows up in the network as DESKTOP-IS67KQ5

I want it to show up as Dell-laptop in the Network too

What else should I do?
