How to play DVD movies with the LG Slim Portable DVD Writer #GP50NB40

I have the Lenovo Yoga 2 with Windows 8. I've bought the Slim Portable DVD Writer from LG, Model # GP50NB40. It connects and powers up with the USB 2 , opens and accepts a DVD.....  1) Ran and installed the installation disk etc. 2) Followed troubleshooters in devices 3) updated driver on the LG site 4) downloaded and installed VLC media player and nothing has enable the computer to SEE or play a DVD movie!  The suite that comes with the GP50NB40 does not have a "Play DVD" option??? Thanks!

Does the drive appear in Device Manager ?

How about COMPUTER ?

Do you have iTunes installed on your computer ?

Yes it appears in the device manager. 

I've been unable to find simple keys such as My Computer on Windows 8?

Yes, I have ITunes on this computer. I am updating it today. 

I also ran a troubleshooter on the device and ran an updater on the software driver. It said it was already up to date.

Stull not recognizing it as a DVD player?

Hi,

If you right click on your Desktop and select either Display, or Personalize, you will see something concerning Desktop Icons on the upper left...

This will let you add COMPUTER. Recycle Bin, and other things that are probably missing... I can't check at the moment as I'm running Win 10, and they moved stuff again...

iTunes is one of a number of programs that can cause your CD\DVD drive to go missing... If updating iTunes doesn't resolve the problem, download and install this driver  from GEAR... it is something iTunes uses, and will usually fix the problem..
