How to play DVD in Windows 10.

Original title: Windows 10 Media Player

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to play a simple dvd on my laptop after upgrading to Windows 10.

Would someone please walk me through it in plain English?   PLEASE?

Hello,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Community. We will assist you in resolving the issue.

Before assisting further, I would like to ask you few questions:

  1. Did you try to play a DVD using Windows Media Player?

  2. If yes, what happens when you play the DVD?

  3. Do you get any error message/error code?

Windows 10 has a built in CD/DVD reader called Windows Media Player. You can play and burn CD/DVD audio and video contents using Windows Media Player.

To open Windows Media Player in your device, follow the steps below:

  1. Press Windows logo key on the keyboard and type Windows Media Player.

  2. Select the top most search result and follow the on-screen instructions.

You can download also DVD player app for free from Windows Store if you have installed KB3081704 update on your PC

Please be informed that,

  1. The app is not available if you do a clean installation of Windows 10 instead of an upgrade.

  2. If you upgrade from an edition of Windows 7 or Windows 8 that does not include Media Centre, you may buy the Windows DVD player or another app that plays DVDs in the Windows Store.

Refer to the link below on DVD playback options for Windows

Write to us with the answers to the above questions and the status of the issue on the same post for further assistance. Your reply is most important for us to ensure we assist you accordingly.

Thank you.

I get this screen that wants me to organize my libraries, etc... or connect me to the internet rather than just simply play the DVD in the computer.  I shall persevere but simple was better.

I was surprised and disappointed to find that after I downloaded the Windows 10 upgrade, I did not have a dvd player.  An update code apparently should have come to me, but it didn't, and now I must buy a dvd player.

Short easy version? Windows 10 blows since they have this stupid app store mentality. You have to either buy a dvd app or download some media player. I recommend VLN. Here is a link https://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html Its free, its simple, and its just a good overall media player.

I just found I have the same problem. Upgraded from Windows 7 several months ago but had not tried to use DVD player since upgrade. Tried to play one on vacation recently and did not play. It doesn't seem to recognize the DVD but checking the player it is operating normally.
