What you should do with a possible defective battery is contact the manufacturer under Warranty. It's possible the battery even has a recall posted on the Laptop model's Support Downloads web page. These usually will stretch beyond the one year warranty period since there is risk to life and limb with a bad battery.

So I would contact Support even if it's out of warranty.
