How to I disable web search in the task bar search box in May 2020 Windows 10?
Hi IDW. II'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, and Volunteer Moderator, here to help you.

1) Try these:
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/25016-turn-...
https://www.windowscentral.com/how-disable-bing...

2) If those don't work then see if you can System Restore to a point before the problem began following this guide: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-system-r...

If the problem repeats then check which Windows Updates were installed at Settings > Update & Security > Windows Updates > Update History, uninstall them there or System Restore again, then immediately check for and block the Updates with the Hide Updates tool explained here: https://www.howtogeek.com/223864/how-to-uninsta...

3) If this was caused by a Version Update then for 10 days you can roll it back in Settings>Update & Security>Recovery and then hide it until it matures using the Hide Updates Tool which is explained more here:
https://www.howtogeek.com/223864/how-to-uninsta....

If that doesn't work you can also Go Back in Repair Mode as shown here:
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2294-advanc...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and keep me posted. If you'll wait to rate whether my post resolved your problem, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

OK. The method described will work for Windows 10 Fall 2019 update, but will not work for the Spring 2020 update. Any other suggestions?

There were several. Did you try them all?

I'll look into this deeper tomorrow.

Hi Greg, thanks for your work on this.  In terms of fixing the problem of eliminating internet search from the Windows search bar, unfortunately this is a new install so I don't have anything to roll back to.  I tried all of the methods in the links, and nothing worked.  Most notably, when running regedit as admin, there is no "Explorer" directory of reg entries under  Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows ; there are only just CloudContent, CurrentVersion, and DataCollection.  But despite this, I am still getting web searches from the Windows search bar.  This is an astonishing privacy and security flaw in Windows, in my opinion.  Have you happened to run across any further information?

Thank you,

Tom

GILDA, thanks for trying these additional suggestions. I couldn't do them myself because I was asking on behalf of another person whose computer I have no access to.  I didn't want to risk borking my own setup to solve this person's problem, and didn't trust this other person to try these suggestions on his own.

I'm still looking for an answer...
