How to disable pre-login clock screen?

Hello,

When booting up my computer or when waking it from standby, I want to be able to immediately type my login info without having to first dismiss the clock screen.

Is it possible to disable the clock screen so that the login form/screen is automatically presented?

Windows 8 on PC

Thanks!
Peter

Hi Peter

This can be done, but how you accomplish this depends on whether you have Windows 8 core or Windows 8 Pro.

You can check your version by pressing the WinKey+R to display the Run dialog. Type  winver  in the Open box and click OK. A small window will open and you will see either Windows 8 or Windows 8 Pro.

Let us know.

Hi,
Regards,
Carlos

Thanks Carlos, but this skips the login process all together. I just want to get rid of the clock screen that covers up the login screen.

Hi Peter

In the Windows 8 Pro version there is a Group Policy that disables the Lock Screen by making a change to the registry. In Windows 8 core, you can implement the same change by editing the registry directly.

Press the WinKey+R to display the Run dialog, type  regedit.exe  and click OK to open the registry editor.

Navigate to the following registry key.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows

Right click the Windows key and select New/Key. Rename the new key  Personalization.

Right Click the Personalization key and select New/DWORD (32-bit) Value.

Name the new value NoLockScreen  (Case sensitive). Right click the NoLockScreen value and select Modify.

In the Value data box, type the number 1  and click OK.

Exit the registry editor and restart the computer to see the change.

Regards

That does exactly what I wanted, thank you!!

P.S. Maybe you can pass this on, but I can't post messages here when using firefox. Nothing happens when hitting the Submit button to post this and I have to then open this page up in IE. Uncool.
